A MAN convicted of seven arson charges after cars were set alight in his own community has been jailed for four years and three months.
A judge at Mold Crown Court told Alan Lloyd Paul Evans, 38, there were other fires in the Caia Park area of Wrexham he could not have been responsible for because he was in custody at the time.
But he had contributed to the fear in the neighbourhood by his early morning arson attacks.
To make matters worse, Evans was on a 12-week suspended sentence at the time of the spate of arsons after he admitted setting fire to another car in exactly the same way – by applying a naked flame to the number plate.
Mr Recorder Simon Mills jailed him for four years for the seven arson offences he was convicted of – and applied the suspended sentence consecutively.
Evans, of Percy Road, Wrexham, denied any involvement in the fires which all occurred between 6.40am and 7.10am in Stuart Street, Hilbre Road, Waterloo Close and Percy Road on October 24. But he was convicted on what the judge described as overwhelming evidence.
