Hunt for masked thugs who threatened shop assistant with metal bars during last night's incident in Maes Canol
The duo struck at the Premier Store on Maes Canol at around 9.40pm on Bank Holiday Monday and demanded money from the till
The store’s footage shows the two raiders entering the shop and, while one confronts the shop assistant and tries to hit him with a metal pole, the other goes behind the counter and smashes wine bottles.
The pair fled empty-handed when brave shop assistant Jegadheesan Sinnathamby pressed the panic alarm.
Shock
Store owner Suresh Pillainayagam said he had to give Mr Sinnathamby, “a couple of days off” because of the shock of the ordeal.
“He was shaken up,” said Mr Pillainayagam. “He was very scared, but it was all over quickly because my member of staff pressed the panic button.
“They had their faces covered and one was shouting ‘give me the money, give me the money’.
“The other came behind the counter and he broke a couple of bottles of wine.”
Earlier today police released a description of the two men they want to speak to in connection with the attempted-robbery.
Witness appeal
They are said to be in their early to mid-20s of medium build and around 5ft 6ins tall.
One wore a dark blue hooded jacket with the hood up, dark tracksuit bottoms and dark trainers. His accomplice is white and was also wearing a dark coloured hooded jacket worn up with dark coloured trousers and footwear. They both may have been wearing gloves.
North Wales Police’s Det Insp Iwan Roberts said: “Shortly after 9.30pm an attempted robbery took place at Premier Store in Maes Canol Abergele when two men walked into the shop and threatened staff with a bat type implement.
“They attempted to take the till’s contents but were unsuccessful and after less than a minute both ran from the shop empty-handed. Fortunately no-one was injured.”
