A MOTHER of three targeted three town centre shops in a spate of thefts on the same day.
Wrexham Magistrates’ Court heard how Kim Williams, 42, of Churton Drive, Wrexham, had stolen from three shops in Wrexham, one immediately after the other, before she was apprehended by the police.
Williams pleaded guilty to all three counts of theft before magistrates.
Helen Tench, prosecuting, said that Williams had stolen almost £300 worth of goods from Debenhams in Eagles Meadow, Tesco and Boots during the incident on February 24.
She told the court how Williams had first gone into Debenhams with a young child in a pram and a large quantity of shopping bags attached to the handles. She then put clothing items into some of the bags and left the store through the rear exit without paying for them.
Mrs Tench went on to say that Williams then stole candles and make up products from Boots and then proceeded to Tesco where she took more candles.
In her police interview, Mrs Tench said, Williams fully admitted what she had done but said she had taken the items for her friends.
Ian Barnes, defending, said that his client was a single mother of three children aged between one and 15 and that she received no support from their fathers.
She was in receipt of income support but that had been significantly cut to about £23 per week, which she was struggling with. The court heard how she intended to sell the goods to her friends to account for the loss in her benefits.
Mr Barnes said: “She fully admitted what she had done and does not deny that she intended to sell these items.”
Mr Barnes added that Williams had tested positive for opiates in her police interview because she was receiving a methadone treatment following past problems with heroin.
Chairman of magistrates Nicholas Colbourne issued Williams with a six month community order with a 20 day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR). He also ordered her to pay £22.50 compensation, £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
