As the boys fight, schoolchildren encourage them to keep going but a doctor warned fights like this can cause brain injuries
A shockingly violent fight breaks out between children on a Welsh street.
It is a jarring reality check for parents of the violence that can occur between children.
The vicious fight appeared to break out after an aggressive verbal exchange and insults between those involved.
The grim drama unfolded in Penarth in front of boys and girls who seem to be dressed in school uniform.
But the school involved and the Vale of Glamorgan council said they wouldn’t comment on the footage.
However, a doctor warned the children risked brain damage from being hit like this.
And there are examples of people dying after being struck just once.
Dr Phil White said the kids were facing the same risks as boxers.
“These kids are running the risk of brain injuries, for definite,” he said.
“They also risk facial fractures like broken jaws and cheekbones.
“I would say to them to stop it and get on the rugby pitch and take out their aggression with a few hard tackles rather than belting each other.
“If they carried on unabated there could be so much brain damage they would have slurred speech and affected mental processes.
“And the developing brain is more susceptible to injuries.”
In the original footage, one boy is heard insulting another then punches him in the face and is hit back.
Another boy who then joins in is struck with such force to the face he crumples on the floor.
Eventually the fracas is broken up.
As the fight is going on one onlooker can be heard shouting: “F***ing kill him!”
Another says: “That was sick.”
Brain injury charity Headway agreed the kids were putting themselves at risk.
“Even after a minor head injury, brain function can be temporarily impaired and this is sometimes referred to as concussion,” it said on its website.
“This can lead to difficulties such as headaches, dizziness, fatigue, depression, irritability and memory problems.
“While most people are symptom-free within two weeks, some can experience problems for months or even years after a minor head injury.
“The more severe the brain injury, the more pronounced the long term effects are likely to be.
“Survivors of more severe brain injury are likely to have complex long term problems affecting their personality, their relationships and their ability to lead an independent life.
“Even with good rehabilitation, support and help in the community, survivors and their families are likely to face uncertain and challenging futures.”
The film was posted on a Facebook page called Brutal Street Fights.
We have removed the sound and pixelated the footage.
Facebook were contacted but had not commented at the time of writing.
South Wales Police said they had been made aware of the footage and had spoken to the parties involved, but no criminal proceedings are being taken.
A spokesman said: “On March 1, police were made aware of footage published on social media and officers made subsequent enquiries.
“Having spoken to all parties in the presence of their parents, no complaint was forthcoming.
“It was agreed that under the circumstances it would be in everybody’s best interest not to proceed a criminal investigation.
