The chilling incident on Saturday afternoon in Merthyr saw an unidentified man wearing a 'Jason-style' mask leave drivers shaken by the scary sight
It was like something out of a scene from the classic horror movie Friday the 13th.
A man wearing a “Jason-style” ice hockey mask stopped the traffic in Merthyr on the weekend by spooking motorists in the town centre.
The unidentified person wearing the mask, which has become synonymous with the horror film franchise, was stood on the roundabout by the Tesco Extra superstore in Station Yard for sometime as drivers crawled past not quite believing their eyes.
One of those who was driving by when the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon was Leon Nicholls, who took a picture and a video of the frightening looking individual stood still on the side of the road.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” said, Leon, 23, from Merthyr. “My cousin was driving and all I could see was this man in a Jason mask staring at the traffic. We drove around the roundabout twice to do a double take.
“I wasn’t the only one. All the traffic was practically coming to a stop to take a look at him. I think they were as freaked out as I was.”
He added: “This was at around 12.15pm on Saturday and it was really creepy. He had a bag with him and his hands in his pockets. You didn’t know if he had anything on him.
“A group of girls walked by and they jumped when they saw him. That’s when he walked off.”
Posting the picture and video on his Facebook page, Leon said that this chilling vision had spooked many of his friends.
“Many of them left messages saying they didn’t want to walk home on their own. He was quite an intimidating sight.”
Police were called out after receiving several calls from the public about the incident.
A spokesman from South Wales Police said: “A male has been spoken to in relation to the incident on Saturday. However, no charges have been brought.”
