Swansea council is warning people that someone has been dropping drawing pins on the city's seafront promenade which have already led to cycle tyre punctures

Swansea council and the police are hunting a mystery “drawing pin dropper” who is believed to be targeting the popular Swansea promenade - putting cyclists, dog walkers and their pets, pedestrians and joggers at risk.
This coming Easter weekend the popular seafront promenade is due to be filled with tens of thousands of families, tourists and others.
Swansea council says there have been a number of reports regarding the drawing pins being left over the last week at locations stretching from Mumbles and West Cross in the West to the Civic Centre area in the east overlooking Swansea Beach.

'Extremely irresponsible and dangerous'

A council spokesman said: “Some cyclists have already reported punctured tyres because of the drawing pins.”
The authority says the action is “extremely irresponsible and dangerous”.
Members of the public who use the promenade daily are being asked to be the “eyes and ears” of the council and the police by reporting anything suspicious they see on the seafront.
The council has organised extra sweeps of the prom in the wake of the reports but is calling for anyone with information on who may be responsible to contact South Wales Police.

'Puts users at risk'

The council spokesman added: “The number of drawing pins to have been left at several locations on the prom over the last week or so makes it look like this is being done deliberately.
“This is an extremely irresponsible and dangerous thing to do because it puts users of the prom at risk.
“We’d encourage anyone who sees anything suspicious or thinks they may know who’s responsible to either contact the police or the council.
The prom is a terrific facility that’s enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors every year, so it’s hugely disappointing that someone or a group of people is intent on spoiling the experience for the vast majority.

South Wales Police investigating

“We’ve urged our staff to be vigilant and have organised extra sweeps on the prom, but we’re also asking the public to be on the lookout for suspicious behaviour.
“The Easter holidays start this weekend, so it’s important this problem is nipped in the bud as soon as possible.”
South Wales Police who are investigating remind people they are available on 101.
Anyone with information can also contact Swansea Council’s Parks Watch Hotline on 0800 0787357.
Swansea Bay’s famous promenade, the site of the world’s first passenger railway The Mumbles Railway, with views across the bay to Mumbles Head is one of the foremost atttractions in South Wales.
