Police are hunting a man who robbed a Rhyl arcade at knife-point.
Officers are also appealing for information after two men armed with a baseball bat attempted to rob a convenience store in Abergele just hours later, but fled empty-handed. The incidents are not believed to be connected.
In the first incident, a man entered Palace Arcade in West Parade just before 7.40pm yesterday (March 28) and threatened a male member of staff with a knife, and made off with cash from a till.
Detective Inspector Iwan Roberts, who is leading both investigations, said the cash stolen was not a “significant amount”.
Description
He said the culprit could possibly have a north east accent and is described as between 20-25 years old, white, of stocky build and about 6ft1ins tall.
DI Roberts said: “At about 7.40pm yesterday evening, police were notified that a robbery had just taken place at Palace Arcade in West Parade Rhyl.
“One of the arcade’s staff working by the entrance to the ‘Laser Zone’ was threatened with a knife resulting in an offender making off with cash from a till which fortunately is not a significant amount.”

He added: “He was wearing an ‘Umbro’ navy blue fleece type hooded jacket, with the hood worn up and a dark coloured face covering. The jacket bore an ‘Umbro’ motif on its left breast. He was also wearing black gloves and jeans.”
The man was seen running off in the direction of Abbey Street where DI Roberts says he was possible joined by another man, described as of similar height and wearing a dark waterproof jacket with the hood worn up.
DI Roberts said: “Fortunately the arcade worker was not injured but the incident has clearly shaken him.”
Attempted robbery
The second incident took place just after 9.30pm yesterday at the Premier Store in Maes Canol, Abergele.
Two men walked into the shop and threatened staff with a wooden bat and attempted to take money from the till but after less than a minute they fled the shop empty-handed.
The crooks are described as being in their early to mid-twenties of medium build and about 5ft 6ins tall.
One wore a dark blue hooded jacket with the hood up, dark tracksuit bottoms and dark trainers.
His accomplice is a white man also wearing a dark hooded jacket with dark coloured trousers and footwear.
Both may have been wearing gloves.
DI Roberts said: “I’d like to hear from anyone who was in the areas of last night’s incidents and saw any suspicious activity or knows anything about these crimes to contact Police immediately.
“Whilst it’s important to keep an open mind, at this stage I do not believe the incidents are connected.”
