Now Seven Sisters councillor Steve Hunt has called for something to done to tackle the problem of needle use in the area, after collecting two bags filled with needles from the back of Dulais Road, which backs onto Nant y Cafn playing fields and play area.
"It's an unbelievable amount of stuff," he said.
Mr Hunt said he was thankful that most of the needle packs had remained unopened, but he suspected they had been stolen due to the large quantity.
The needles were discovered along with a sleeping bag and a rucksack.
"It's an awful lot of needles, and they have just been left there," he said.
Some of the needles and swabs found in Seven Sisters.
The Seven Sisters councillor said he was handing the needles over to council officers to dispose of them properly, but he has urged people not to pick up any syringes or needles they find.
Mr Hunt said: "It looks like someone slept there and then just left everything.

"We cannot get our heads around what has happened — it does not make any sense."
The councillor said used needles had been found near the garages in Seven Sisters a few weeks ago.
"Luckily these do not seem to be used.
"It is a concern for the community about what the heck is going on — how could someone have all of those needles?"
Mr Hunt said his biggest concern was for the safety of children in the area.
"This is right by the playing field and children's play area.
"They were right by where the children play. They could have walked across and picked them up."
Mr Hunt said he wanted this needle issue to stop before anyone was hurt.
