Pitches unplayable at club ahead of beginning of new season due to start soon

Mindless vandals have ruined several pitches at a cricket club just weeks before the new season is expected to start.
Bangor Cricket Club was the victim of wanton destruction last week when yobs poured what is thought to be red diesel across a number of pitches, ruining them.
The vandals are thought to have targeted the club at some point between the evening of Thursday March 17 and the following Friday afternoon.
The groundsmen for the club contacted North Wales Police on Friday evening after the damage was seen.
Writing on Facebook, a spokesman for the club said: “Sometime between Thursday evening & Friday afternoon, Ty Newydd was subjected to a senseless act of vandalism; a significant amount of fuel (more than likely Red Diesel) was poured across the square, affecting all but two pitches.
“What does this mean? Basically, all the affected grass is effectively “killed on contact” and no further growth will be possible until the soil is no longer “contaminated” by the fuel.
“It also means a number of pitches cannot be used until the fuel has cleared – some probably unusable for the whole season.
“If anybody noticed anything/anybody suspicious, please contact us.”
The new cricket season is scheduled to start in April and in the last few weeks improvements have been carried out around all the club grounds.
A spokeswoman for North Wales Police said: “We were made aware on March 18 by the groundsman of damage to the cricket club pitches.
“We are investigating and our enquiries are ongoing.
“CCTV is being studied.
“If anyone has any information regarding the incident they are asked to contact North Wales Police via 101 quoting reference number U039271.
“They can also visit Bangor Police station or use the webchat on our website.”
