A WOMAN who took a 16-year-old girl’s purse after the teen accidentally left it at a supermarket checkout had confessed to police when they released a CCTV image of her, a court heard.
Magistrates at Llandudno were told the picture went on Facebook and Catherine McAuliffe, 28, of the town’s Ffordd Penrhyn, went to the nearby police station.
She was fined £120 with £105 costs and must pay £27 compensation after pleading guilty to theft at Asda, Llandudno, in February.
The prosecution said McAuliffe, on benefit, accepted to police that she should have returned the purse, with cash and an ID card inside, back to Asda after taking it home. It was thrown in a bin, she maintained.
She told the court: ”I was being lazy. I am sorry for what I did.”
