An Anglesey man has been jailed for striking a child with a belt, a cane and a slipper during a string of assaults.
Paul Watson, of Zealand Park, Caergeiliog, had earlier pleaded guilty to three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
At Chester Crown Court, sitting as Mold, the 45-year-old was today sentenced to 16 months in prison.
The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was 10 years-old when she was first struck.
Karl Scholz, prosecuting, told the court that during one of the incidents she was struck twice across the back with a belt.
The two other assaults involved the use of a cane and a slipper.
The offences came to light when the girl told her teacher that she had been struck.
Elen Owen, defending, said there was a “different side” to her client, adding that he is a “very hardworking man” who would lose his job as a lorry driver if he was sent to prison.
She pleaded with the judge to impose a suspended sentence or the “shortest possible” jail term.
Judge Hale told Watson: “You’re entitled to a small degree of credit for pleading guilty on your trial date.
“I accept the assertion that this is a category one assault occasioning actual bodily harm directed towards a child.”
Watson was sentenced to 16 months in prison for each count to run concurrently.
He will be released on license after eight months with 12 months supervision.
