FOUR fire crews battled gorse fires for almost four hours on Holyhead Mountain on Wednesday night.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Services were alerted to the blaze near South Stack Road at around 7.15pm and finally had the situation under control by 11pm.
Llangefni and Rhosneigr fire stations sent staff to assist two crews from Holyhead. One hose-reel jet and seven beaters were deployed.
A spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue said: "The cause of the fire remains undetermined. It could have been a controlled or uncontrolled gorse and bracken burn."
Land on Mynydd Twr (Holyhead Mountain) has previously been managed through a programme of controlled burns, but the area has also been prone to uncontrolled burns.
Landowners looking to condct burns are urged by North Wales Fire and Rescue to "call before you burn" on 01931 522006.
Burning on lowland areas is not permitted now until November 1 and on upland areas the law permits burning until March 31.
