A woman has fallen to her death in Snowdonia while out walking with her husband.
The couple from Stockport were coming down the western face of Tryfan when they went in the wrong direction and started descending the dangerous Notch gully.
According to Chris Lloyd, spokesman for Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue, the woman, who was in her 50s, fell up to 70 metres to her death.
Her husband called the emergency services and 15 members of the Ogwen team, six members of Llanberis Mountain Rescue and four volunteers from the Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue team searched for the couple.
Mr Lloyd said: “We couldn’t get in touch with the woman’s husband and, by the time we got there, the weather conditions were atrocious.
“The search and rescue helicopter carried two of our members up the mountain, but then had to be evacuated as we were getting wind gusts of up to 70mph, which the helicopter just couldn’t cope with.
“We found the very distraught man, who feared the worst for his wife, and escorted him off the mountain.
“We then found the woman, who sadly had died due to the result of her injuries sustained during her fall.”
Mr Lloyd said the couple were keen walkers and were well equipped.
The woman was stretchered off the mountain by the team, and her body was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd.
Mr Lloyd added: “The west face of Tryfan is pretty notorious.”
