A 51-YEAR-OLD Anglesey man has been jailed for two years after admitting to grooming and meeting a 14-year-old schoolgirl.
Andrew Marshall, who lived in Newborough at the time the offences took place, bombarded the girl with text and Facebook messages – some of which were of a highly sexualised nature.
He also sent her a birthday card with a silver coloured necklace, hugged and tried to kiss her.
Mold Crown Court heard how the abuse had a traumatic impact upon the victim.
After changing his plea, Marshall was ordered to register as a sex offender for seven years. A seven-year sexual harm prevention order was made preventing him from approaching the victim in any way.
Marshall would invite the schoolgirl to his house, give her money and gifts, and would send her text messages referring to her as 'my girl' and as a 'minx'.
Marshall - now living in Oakholme Avenue in Worksop - wrote in one text :"Hope you are OK, wish I could kiss your chest better."
He also told the girl to view a pornographic website.
Prosecuting barrister Andrew Green said police launched a probe after her mother found a birthday card under the teenager's bed signed: "My special girl, love you always, Andy."
The judge, Mr Recorder Jeremy Jenkins, said Marshall had “bombarded her with many, many dozens of text messages of an explicit, sexual nature,” between August 2013 and July 2014.
He had written that he wished he could sleep next to her, hug her goodnight and go away with her.
But the judge said in his probation report he tried to blame the girl for taking advantage of him for financial gain.
An examination of her mobile phone revealed he had sent over 100 text messages and contacted her via Facebook.
Defending barrister John Wyn Williams said: “At least he did not take a step towards a more intimate relationship,” he said.
Marshall accepted that his text messages had been entirely inappropriate.
