A MAN crashed into two stationary cars after driving home drunk from the pub following an argument with his wife.
Russell Kyffin, of Rutland Road, Wrexham, left his house in the morning of February 13 after the row, which left his marriage in jeopardy.
He went to the pub to watch the Wales against Scotland Six Nations rugby match with the intention of not drinking, but consumed five pints while there.
Following the match, he decided to drive home to try and make amends with his wife despite being above the drink-drive limit.
But on the way, he twice crashed into stationary vehicles.
The first crash happened just before 7pm when Kyffin, 53, was seen to crash into a white Vauxhall Astra van and drive off from the scene in Gutter Hill, Rhos.
Shortly after that, Kyffin collided with a stationary green Peugeot, hitting the wing mirror and scraping down the side of the body in Fairy Road, Wrexham.
Again he drove off from the scene of the crash.
Police were given his registration number by witnesses and he was arrested at home later that evening.
In interview, Kyffin told police he had no recollection of hitting the van. He remembered hitting the Peugeot but thought there was no damage so he drove off.
He said all he could think about was getting home and sorting things out with his wife.
Kyffin had 115 microgrammes
of alcohol per 100ml of breath, more than three times the legal limit of 35mg.
Appearing at Wrexham Magistrates Court, Kyffin admitted drink-driving and two counts of failing to stop after an accident.
Alun Williams, defending, said Kyffin had been anxious to resolve the argument with his wife and made the “wrong” decision to drive home.
“It is fair to say the journey home was an eventful one,” Mr Williams added.
The court heard Kyffin had no previous convictions and Mr Williams said he had been fully
co-operative with police.
Kyffin had been married for 20 years and they had since put their problems behind them.
Magistrates banned Kyffin from driving for two years and imposed a 12-month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work.
He was fined £120 for each of the failure to stop charges. Kyffin was also ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge and £385 costs.
