A WOMAN sobbed after her caravan containing sentimental items given to her by her late sister was stolen.
Linda Pickering was left in tears after her and her husband Keith’s caravan was pinched from outside their home on Lancaster Park in Broughton.
Mrs Pickering said among the £5,000 worth of items inside the caravan were precious gifts from her late sister Chris who died of motor eurone disease last year.
She told the Leader: “We had packed to go away for our first trip of the year.
“All our clothes, money were in there for us ready to go.
“There was £5,000 worth inside the caravan as well as items that my sister Chris had given me before she died last September.
“You can just never ever replace those.
“I was sobbing my heart out over those things.”
The caravan was taken from outside the Pickerings’ address on January 28 at around 2.45pm.
CCTV saw the caravan being driven away from the home by a white Transit van.
Mr Pickering said the caravan had been their “pride and joy”.
“We've lived here 22 years and had caravans for the past 20 years on the drive and never had a problem.
“I finished at 4.10pm and came home from work and it had gone,” he said.
All that was left on the floor were cables we’d had plugged in to heat it up from over winter and to get the fridge working.
“It was our pride and joy. We’d had it for three-and-a-half years. You have to work for these things.”
Mrs Pickering added that when her husband called to inform her their caravan had been taken, she feared the worst.
“We just couldn’t understand why it had gone because it was just always there on the drive. It was like an extension of the house.
“I can’t see us ever seeing it again.”
Mr Pickering said that, after discussions with police, he had stepped up personal protection at their home.
He said: “The most disturbing thing that we heard from the police is that whoever has taken it had been watching us. It freaks you out.
“We’ve upgraded the house alarm and installed security lights for peace of mind.”
