Newport,South Wales - Welsh senior adviser to George Osborne alleged to have been murdered

The father of a Welsh senior adviser to Chancellor George Osborne has spoken of his shock after the 52-year-old was allegedly murdered.

Newport-born Paul Jefferies, 52, was found dead at his home

Newport-born Paul Jefferies, 52, was found dead at his home in Mayfield in Sussex on Thursday.
On Tuesday a 17-year-old boy appeared at Brighton Magistrates' Court charged with his murder.
Mr Jefferies had worked at Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs for 20 years and had helped shape Government tax policy with the Treasury.
Neighbours said that he had been obsessed with his own privacy, never had any visitors, and was never seen in the village.
Detectives launched a murder investigation after being called to the site in Coggins Mill Lane at 6.15pm on February 25 after a call from a concerned employer worried he had not arrived at work.
A police spokesman said: “A post-mortem revealed the man had died from multiple injuries.”

Estranged from parents

His father John Jeffries, 77, said: “It’s really tragic but I hadn’t seen him in so long.
“He left home in the 1980s and we had no idea where he went or what he was doing.
“He was a tidy bloke but he never got in touch.
“I had no clue he was living in that village in Sussex.”
Paul was estranged from his parents after leaving home in Pilton Vale, Newport, at the age of 21 and never returning.
He failed to attend his mother’s funeral in 1999.
Retired John said: “It is very difficult to take in that he’s been murdered. We found him on the internet after his mother died but we didn’t get in touch.”
A spokesman for HM Revenue and Customs confirmed that Mr Jefferies worked in its policy unit.
He said: “Paul will be very sadly missed.
“Our thoughts are with those closest to him at this very difficult time.”
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Mr Jefferies, 52, was found dead by police who called at his home in Coggins Mill Lane on Thursday after concerns had been expressed that he had not been seen for a few days.”
