Neath,South Wales - Late night car and foot chase through Neath ends in prison

Jason Ilfold was out of prison on licence when he led police on a chase through Neath town centre
A NEATH man out of prison on licence led police on a late-night car chase through the town centre at speeds touching 56mph — at one stage going the wrong way along one-way streets and turning the lights off on his car — before abandoning the vehicle and running off, a court has heard.
The chase began near the Mile End garage in Melyn when a PC on patrol signalled Jason Ilfold to pull over just after midnight on January 20.

Swansea Crown Court heard 32-year-old Ilfold instead sped off along Briton Ferry Road, followed by the constable in his patrol car.
Helen Randall, for the prosecution, said Ilfold drove at speeds touching 56mph as he headed into Neath, going the wrong way around the mini-roundabout by Stockham's corner and speeding along Windsor Road. He then turned off the lights on the car as he tried to give police the slip, at one stage driving the wrong way along Allister Street.
He eventually abandoned the car behind Neath train station and took to his heels — throwing a small wrap of amphetamine to the floor as he did so.
Ilfold was pursued on foot by the chasing PC who picked up the wrap and then caught him in an alleyway next to La Memo restaurant on Windsor Road.
The defendant later told police he had bought the car for £100 a couple of week before and it was a "shed".
Ilfold, of Windsor Road, Neath, had previously pleaded guilty dangerous driving, driving without a licence, MoT or insurance, failing to stop, and to possessing amphetamine when he appeared in the dock for sentencing.
The court was told Ilfold has 32 previous convictions for some 85 offences, and was out of prison on licence at the time of the chase.
He has now been recalled to serve the remainder of a 2,044 day jail sentence previously imposed for possession of heroin with intent to supply. He is not due to be released from that sentence until July 2018.
Georgina Buckley, for Ilfold, asked the judge to give her client credit for his guilty plea, and added that he wanted to spend his time in custody productively "by doing as many courses as he can".
Recorder Christopher Clee QC sentenced Ilfold to six weeks in prison for the dangerous driving, and to seven days for the drug charge to run concurrently. No separate penalty was imposed for the licence, insurance, MoT and failing to stop offences. He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months and three weeks.
