A DRIVER has been condemned for going over a pavement and damaging a patch of grass.
Flint councillor Alex Aldridge has expressed his anger after the area of grass, maintained by council staff, was damaged by the thoughtless motorist.
The incident happened on the junction between Chapel Street and Prince of Wales Avenue in the town, and Cllr Aldridge is now calling for parking restrictions on the road.
He said: “Cars are parking on the junction by the Royal British Legion.
“I am absolutely outraged by the actions of a driver that has obviously got stuck and done no more than mount the kerb and driven straight across a grassed area that is kept in pristine condition for the people of Flint.
“We are spending a huge amount of money improving the area and this absolute disregard for our environment has got to stop.
“I am fed up that there are no parking restrictions there.
“We have people who maintain that area and they must be absolutely devastated about it.”
Cllr Aldridge said the driver was also causing a hazard for parents walking along the pavement.
He said the issue of parking was a problem in the town, but had called on people parking to be more responsible about where they leave their vehicles.
He added that a number of areas would be coming back into use in the future to help ease the parking issue.
Steve Jones, Flintshire Council’s chief officer for Streetscene and transportation, said: “An unidentified vehicle has driven across a grassed verge close to Flint town centre causing some damage which will be repaired by the council in the next few days.
“The council condemns the action of the motorist and will continue to monitor the area and take action if the perpetrator is identified.”
