Sylvan Maurice Parry is standing trial at Mold Crown Court where he denies attempting to murder Fiona Thomas Parry

A Caernarfon man stamped repeatedly on his wife’s head “with considerable force” as she lay motionless on the floor causing life changing injuries, it was alleged today.
Defendant Sylvan Maurice Parry, 46, of Ffordd Cibyn, Caernarfon, denies attempting to murder Fiona Thomas Parry during an incident on September 3 last year as they walked the children to school.
Opening the trial to the jury at Mold Crown Court, prosecuting barrister Sion ap Mihangel, said that morning while walking the children to school, he repeatedly stamped with significant force on his wife’s head as she lay motionless on the floor which resulted in severe and life-changing injuries.

'Defendant had been behaving aggressively'

“The prosecution say that this defendant had been behaving aggressively towards his wife as they were leaving the house,” the prosecutor said.
“His demeanor did not improve as they made their way to school.”
He alleged that threats were issued, abuse directed towards her, and he appeared in an angry mood.
The defendant was seen to stamp repeatedly on his wife’s head while she was on the floor.

'Fire officers became aware of disturbance'

Fire officers on duty became aware of a disturbance and they also saw the defendant stamping “with considerable force” while she lay motionless on the floor.
“He was told to stop what he was doing by one of the officers but he continued to stamp and he was seen to kick his wife twice before walking away,” he said.
The prosecutor told the jury: “He targeted a vulnerable area of the body, the head, and considerable force was used by him throughout this attack.
“The prosecution say this was clearly an attempt by this defendant to kill his wife. It was only because of the intervention of others that he did not succeed in killing her” he alleged.

'I know what I have done'

Mr ap Mihangel - who played CCTV footage of the journey the couple took and some of the reaction to what was taking place off camera in the pathway - claimed the defendant himself thought that he had killed her.
He said that the defendant later said to a witness that he had killed her and when he was arrested he asked a police officer whether she was dead?
“I know what I have done,” the defendant said to her.
The prosecutor told the jury that the defendant accepted that he was responsible for inflicting the injuries upon her, but denied using considerable force and denied that he intended to kill her.
The trial before the Resident Judge for Wales, Judge Eleri Rees, is proceeding.
