A MAN accused of cutting a phone line before kicking and punching a woman at her home and forcing her to have sex, was jailed for eight-and-a-half years.
Simon Nash, 43, of Darby Road, Brynteg, Wrexham, had denied rape but was convicted by a jury last month.
Judge David Hale, sitting at Caernarfon Crown Court, told him: ”You showed no remorse for what you did to her.”
Elen Owen, prosecuting, said Nash had changed his plea to guilty of assault during the defence case.
She said Nash had “barged” into the house. His victim said “no” to sex but felt she had no choice other than to submit to him.
Henry Hills, defending, said Nash had no relevant previous convictions and had a strongwork ethic.
In a separate trial last month he was cleared of raping another woman.
Nash must now register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Following the sentencing, investigating officer detective constable Rachel Garbutt, of North Wales Police, said: “It’s important we send out a strong message that North Wales Police and the courts will not tolerate offences of this nature and offenders can expect a long time in prison.
“I’d like to acknowledge and thank the victim who showed great courage in coming forward, determined to see justice served. The significant sentence reflects the gravity of the offence committed and should serve as a warning.
“It is equally important to reassure the community that North Wales Police will provide the appropriate specialist support to assist victims through every stage of the process. We take matters of this nature very seriously and will vigorously pursue offenders and bring them to justice.”
North Wales Police Amethyst Team provide specialist services to support victims and encourage anyone who has been the victim of a sexual offence to come forward.
Reporting a sexual offence is about empowering victims and ensuring they have access to specialist support they may require.
