Officers say the sheep were chased and cornered  before being 'brutally attacked'

A farmer who lost nine sheep in a dog attack over the weekend fears the animal will return to savage his flock again.
The sheep were cornered and “brutally attacked” in Afonwen near Mold, where the farmer came across the devastation this morning.
PC Dave Allen, of North Wales Police’s Rural Crime Unit, said he had dealt with four attacks on sheep in one day and that such incidents are now an “everyday occurrence”.
PC Allen told the Daily Post : “The sheep were grazing in a valley.
“They have obviously been chased down the hill and trapped against livestock fencing across from the river.
“The sheep were then cornered and brutally attacked.
“It was a horrible sight. Some of their ears had been bitten off, and there are puncture marks on some of the flock’s necks which have survived the attack, which is consistent with a dog attack.
“The farmer is understandably angry and concerned that, as the dog or even dogs which carried out the attack have not been caught, another attack could take place again during the night.
“Even though it happened in a remote location, I’d appeal for any witnesses to come forward. A dog walker could have been in the area at the time.”
The sheep, which were rams worth around £100 each, will cost the farmer £25 per sheep to dispose of.
Anyone with information about the Afonwen attack is asked to call the Rural Crime Team on 101, quoting reference number U033121.
