A MAN who tried to rape a young Wrexham woman during what a judge described as a “most disturbing ordeal” has been jailed for six years.
Craig Smith, 25, of Cockermouth in Cumbria, was “emotionally unstable” and “completely lost it” after drinking too much, Judge Geraint Walters told at Caernarfon Crown Court.
“It seems to me you do have some very real issues which you are going to have to resolve,” the judge told him.
Smith denied the charges but was convicted of the sex offence and assault causing actual bodily harm by a jury after a trial. He must register as a sex offender for life.
The judge said he had punched his victim.
Simon Mills, defending, said Smith had difficult problems and a “personality disorder.”
After the guilty verdicts, the barrister said he accepted that custody was inevitable
