Rampaging yobs wreaked havoc at a carnival site after breaking into a tent and pouring away hundreds of pints of beer before trashing stalls, stealing pitchforks and ruining bales of straw.
Organisers of Denbigh Carnival, held on Middle Park field, said they were “disheartened” to be greeted by “chaos” on Sunday.
A large dent was left on the roof of a new transit van as if people had been jumping on it.
Bales of straw were also thrown around the field meaning only three out of 20 could be returned intact to the farmer who had loaned them.
Helena Moore, treasurer of the Denbigh Carnival Committee said: “On Saturday, we had such a fantastic day - I’d say we had at least 5,000 people through the gates.
“The sun was shining and we had such positive feedback from members of the community - it’s such a shame that it only takes a handful of people to spoil it.
“We were on the site until about 8.30pm on Saturday night and returned at around 7am on Sunday morning to be greeted by the chaos.
“The beer tent on the field had been broken into by a group who sat down with their take-away food and helped themselves to pints before leaving their rubbish behind.
“Not only that, but they left the taps on the kegs maliciously draining away around 200 pints worth of beer into the grass.
“A new van parked near the marquee also had a big dent in the roof that looked as though multiple people had climbed on top of it.”
She added: “It is very unfortunate as this was the first time a local business had provided beer for the carnival and now he’s been left with significant damage and loss.”
A stall for birds of prey had also been wrecked with around six metal stakes ripped out of the ground and stolen, with the fencing knocked down.
Volunteers also had to clean up the field after the destruction.
“Only the day before, the people who run the birds of prey company from Cerrigydrudion had been saying what a fantastic day it had been,” said Helena.
“Within the space of a couple of hours all our hard work and efforts had gone to pot thanks to a minority who carried out wanton vandalism for no good reason.”
The free event, which requires a considerable amount of planning is organised by a committee of 12 people who fundraiser tirelessly to make it happen.
The incident has now been reported to North Wales Police.
