The grim discovery was made by workmen on School Lane in Southsea

An appeal for information has been launched after the body of a newborn puppy was found in a drain in Wrexham.
RSPCA Cymru said workmen on School Lane, Southsea, made the grim discovery at around midday on Friday, June 17.
The body of the brindle/black newborn Jack Russell cross was decomposed.
Inspector Tim Jones said: “There were no gaps that the puppy could have fallen through, and the only way could be for someone to lift up a manhole cover and place it in there.
“It is heartbreaking to find a puppy so young in this way. We don’t know what happened or how this little animal died, or even whether he or she was dead before dumped, so we are appealing for information to try and find out.”
The discovery comes a month after RSPCA officers were left “heartbroken” after four dead newborn puppies were found on a road in Wrexham .
The Springer Spaniel pups were discovered by a passer-by in Plas Drain Road in Rhos Mountain. They still had their umbilical chords attached.
Anyone with information about the Jack Russell cross should contact the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018. Calls are treated in confidence.
