A mother used a concrete block to smash up a car belonging to her son’s girlfriend during a booze-fuelled rampage, a court heard.
Amanda Margaret Wynne, 49, caused £5,000 worth of damage to the Mini in the early hours of May 25.
Wrexham Magistrates Court heard Wynne has a “troubled relationship” with her son’s partner Stephanie Williams, and this is the second time in the space of three months she has vandalised her car.
At the time of the incident she had downed three bottles of vodka during a three-day binge.
Wynne, of Bryn Hedd, Southsea, Wrexham, was yesterday handed a 12-month community order and told to pay £400 compensation, having pleaded guilty at a previous hearing.
Justin Espie, prosecuting, said the defendant was drunk and “staggering” when she arrived at the victim’s address on Long Lane, Southsea.
He told the court: “She picked up the concrete block and used it to smash the victim’s vehicle.”
Mr Espie confirmed that the damage caused was worth £5,000, although the vehicle’s valuation is only £2,000.
A pre-sentence report carried out by the probation team was read out in court and stated that Wynne had no recollection of committing the offence because she was drunk.
It added that the relationship between Wynne and the victim was “troubled” and that her behaviour was fuelled by alcohol.
The report said Wynne had voluntarily sought help for her drinking problems as the incident was a “wake up call”.
Alun Williams, defending, told the court the last 25 years of his client’s life had been “blighted by a quite profound drink problem”.
He said: “She was drinking three bottles of vodka over three days during this period. She has admitted she has an alcohol problem, which is a big thing.
“She has genuine remorse. She can’t recall being there but accepts responsibility.”
The community order includes a rehabilitation activity requirement of 10 days and six months alcohol treatment. She was also ordered to pay an £85 surcharge and £85 court costs.
