Swansea,South Wales - Woman left with 'hand-print bruise' on her neck following attack by partner

A MAN with a history of violent offending — including punching his grandmother in the face and holding a knife to the throat of an ex-partner — has admitted assaulting his girlfriend.
Ashley Davies was described in Swansea Crown Court as a "Jekyll and Hyde character", alternating between being friendly and aggressive.
The court heard that the May 2 assault came to light when a call was made to the emergency 999 number — although the call terminated before details could be taken, the handlers could hear a "disturbance" on the end of the line and the word "police" being said.
Kevin Jones, for the prosecution, said the call was traced to property in Llandybie near Ammanford, and police were dispatched.
The court was told that when officers arrived they found a woman in a "shocked and agitated" condition. In her subsequent police interview she said Davies had smothered her with her dressing gown, and had "punched, kicked and strangled" her.
In a second police interview she said she didn't support Davies' prosecution.
The court heard the victim was left with bruising and swelling to her face, and a "hand print bruise" on her neck, as well as wounds to her legs and feet which she said had been caused when she fell down the stairs.
Davies, of Blaenau Road, Llandybie, had previously pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm when he appeared in the dock for sentencing.
The court heard the 26-year-old has 16 convictions for 29 offences beginning when he was a juvenile. The offences include three previous actual bodily harms, five common assaults, two batteries, affray, threatening behaviour and making threats to kill.
The court heard that one of his convictions related to an occasion when he had punched his grandmother in the face outside the Old Cross Inn in Ammanford, and another to when he had held a knife to a previous partner's neck and threatened to kill her.
Sentencing in the case was adjourned to July 4.
