A man has appeared in court accused of assaulting a woman footballer who was out celebrating a cup win.
John Mark Roberts, 52, of Plas Haf, Penyffordd, near Holywell, appeared at Prestatyn magistrates’ court charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He is alleged to have headbutted Sophie Bancroft, 20, who suffered facial injuries including a suspected broken nose in the incident outside the Bar Bow in Rhyl in the early hours of May 30.
She had been celebrating with friends after her side Point Ladies won the SCI football tournament in nearby Kinmel Bay.
Roberts gave no indication of his plea and the bench declined jurisdiction in the case.
He was bailed to appear at Mold Crown Court on July 15, one of the conditions being that he must not enter Rhyl.
