Robert James Piper, 46, had walked free from court after bottling another drunk, but then took two knives into a neighbour's house
A Holywell man who was given a second chance after hitting someone over the head with a bottle is beginning a jail term after brandishing a flick knife days after walking free from court.
Robert James Piper was jailed for a total of 21 months after he turned up at the home of a neighbour carrying two knives, one of which was a large, curved blade and the other a flick knife.
He turned up telling his neighbour “If anyone attacks you, this is what you need to do”.
The neighbour said he felt threatened by Piper, 46, who Mold Crown Court heard was drunk and behaving erratically.
Piper, of Ebenezer Chapel Flats in Holywell, had been due to stand trial in August for possessing the flick knife - which he had originally denied - but changed his plea on Monday.
He had already admitted possessing the other blade, and so his suspended 12 month sentence for bottling another drunken man was imposed nine days ago.
Today, Judge Geraint Walters imposed a further nine months for having the flick knife, making a total of 21 months in jail.
At the age of 46 it was “make or break” time for him now, the judge warned him.
Piper, he said, should take advantage of courses available to him in custody.
The victim had since been struggling to sleep because the incident scared him.
John Hedgecoe, defending, said that his client had far too much to drink, and was behaving erratically and clearly in a frightening way.
He had undertaken courses while in custody and was looking forward to putting offending behind him.
In March, the court heard how police who received a report of a bottle attack followed a trail of blood, which led them to drunken Robert Piper’s home.
Piper had hit another man on the head with a bottle but escaped immediate custody.
He received a 12 month prison sentence, suspended for a year.
The defendant was warned at that stage that if he re-offend and then he would be “ down the steps.”
It was described as a case of two drunken men annoying each other and the defendant Piper had reacted very badly.
It was aggravated by the defendant’s appalling record.
He had a serious wounding on his record but that went back 11 years.
The court heard that a cut to the victim’s head was glued in hospital.
