A dog owner has relived the terrifying moment her beloved pet was attacked and almost killed by a malamute.
Lisa Bird says her dog Molly was almost killed by a malamute on Mostyn Street
Lisa Bird, from Wolverhampton, was visiting Llandudno last week with her dog Molly when the shocking attack happened.
Lisa was outside Bon Marche on Mostyn Street when the malamute, a husky-type breed, jumped on 12-year-old mongrel Molly and started to savage her.
The 31-year-old has been told that, because it is a dog-on-dog attack, it is not a police matter and they cannot do anything.
Speaking to the Daily Post, Lisa said: “She (the owner) had no control over her dog as she was talking to someone with her back to her dog on a loose lead.
“I had picked Molly up and I could feel my hand was wet. I saw it was covered in blood so I started looking for where she was bleeding from.
“Molly was taken to the vet straight away.
“The vet said Molly was lucky that her abdomen wasn’t punctured. If it had been 1cm here or there, she would have died.
“I knelt on the pavement with Molly while passersby expressed their concerns at what they had witnessed and offered me tissues to mop up the blood.
“At no point did the owner of the husky make any attempt to see if Molly was OK and simply walked off.
“I really feel the owner should be made aware of what her dog did while under her ‘control’.”
Lisa has so far had to spend £500 on vet’s bills but said she would “pay ten times over for my pet”.
She continued: “We ended our holiday early due to this irresponsible dog owner to give Molly the best recovery back at home.
“I can honestly say Wednesday was the worst day of my life.
“There are no words to describe what it feels like to see your beloved pet tossed in the air in the jaws of something that could have potentially killed her.
“I don’t want an apology from her. It would mean nothing now the damage is truly done.
“I want to make her and others aware of what negligence can cause and possibly save another dog from going through the pain Molly is in right now.”
In the days since the attack, Molly has been on painkillers and is recovering slowly.
Lisa said: “She is still sleeping lots and you can see the panic in her face when I leave the room.
“She won’t leave my side. I am dreading going to work on Monday.”
