A teenager was shot by an air rifle and injured while playing in woods in Merthyr Vale, Merthyr Tydfil, police said.
The 16-year old was shot by an unknown man who was also in the woods, at about 21:30 BST on 28 May.
He was taken to hospital and given stitches to his head, but is making a full recovery.
South Wales Police said he "could have been seriously injured or even killed."
