Geraint Jeffreys, who wanted to become a teacher, had met the girls while working in a restaurant before having sex with them in his car

A man who befriended teenage girls after meeting them in a Chirk restaurant he was working in has been jailed.
Geraint Jeffreys was 21 when he had sex with two 14-year-old girls.
The history graduate who hoped to become a teacher met one of the girls while he was working in a restaurant in Chirk , then contacted her on Facebook. He picked her up in his car, and while she was drunk on cider, sexual activity took place.
Judge Rhys Rowlands told Mold Crown Court that the law was there to protect children, often from themselves.
He added: “Both girls were just that, they were still children in any normal person’s eyes.”
The girls had been flattered by the attentions of Jeffreys, now 23, and the first girl had told police she was not pressured and wanted to be with him, having told him she was 15.
Judge Rowlands added: “You were a young man of 21 with a car, no doubt you were an attractive prospect to any young, immature girl. You took advantage of that situation.”
When first arrested he lied and said he did not know them, identification procedures had to be carried out, and he then made no comment.
Prosecuting barrister Matthew Curtis told how after sex with one girl, Jeffreys sent a message to her the following day while she was in school telling her to take the morning after pill, which she did.
The second girl said she had felt used “just like another number”.
Defending barrister Mark Connor said Jeffreys, of Castlefields, Oswestry, was a young man of good character who would find custody very difficult.
But Judge Rowlands said that he took the view that Jeffreys had shown “precious little by way of contrition or remorse” and appeared only sorry for himself and the effect on his own family.
“You are not sorry for what you did to those two young girls,” he said.
Jeffreys, who cried through much of the hearing, was jailed for 27 months, made subject of a sexual harm prevention order banning him from contacting girls under 16 via Facebook and other social media sites, and told to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years
