POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 16-year-old boy was shot in the head with an air rifle while he played in woodland.
The teenager needed stitches in the wound following the incident, and officers are appealing for anybody with information to come froward - especially about two men, one wearing camouflage trousers, seen leaving the area.
The shooting happened in woods near Merthyr Vale at around 9.30pm on Saturday, and officers say the victim is making a good recovery.
South Wales Police acting inspector Meirion Collings surged anyone with information to come forward.

He said: "This is a very serious incident, in which the boy could have been seriously injured or even killed.

"I'm appealing for anyone who seen what we believe to be is two men leaving the woods in the direction Troedyrhiw, one of them possibly wearing camouflage trousers to get in touch.
"I'd like to reassure the community that crimes of this nature are extremely rare and we're doing all we can to uncover what happened and bring those responsible to justice."
