The BHS stores in Llandudno and Wrexham will shut for good after administrators were unable to save the struggling high street chain.
Despite considerable efforts it has not been possible to agree a sale of the business, the administrators have confirmed.
Although multiple offers were received, they say none were able to complete a deal due to the working capital required to secure the future of the company.
As a result all 163 stores will be in “close down sale mode” over the coming weeks and while continuing efforts will be made by the administrators to sell stores, they say the jobs of 8,000 members of staff are likely to go.
Scores of retail jobs at the stores in Llandudno and Wrexham will now be lost.
A further 3,000 none BHS employees who work in stores across the UK may also be at risk.
BHS plunged into administration back in March.
Snce then administrators had been working to secure a buyer with more than 50 expressions of interest, mainly from groups wanting to select certain stores to buy.
Philip Duffy, Managing Director of Duff & Phelps and Joint Administrator said “The British high street is changing and in these turbulent times for retailers, BHS has fallen as another victim of the seismic shifts we are seeing. The tireless work and goodwill of the existing management team and employees of BHS with the support of my team were not enough to change the fortunes of the company.”
The administrators paid tribute to “professionalism and hard work” shown by employees and also thanked the public for their support which resulted in “several weeks of significant sales”.
BHS was founded in 1928 and was once a giant of the high street.
