Police are investigating after a missile was thrown at a busy commuter train.
British Transport Police say the item was thrown at the windscreen of a train from a bridge as it passed through Cardiff.
The train’s front window was smashed and the train had to stop at Radyr for passengers to switch trains after the attack at 5.25pm on Wednesday in the Gabalfa area.
Police on the hunt for the culprits
A spokesman said: “We received a report from Network Rail that an item was thrown from the bridge over College Road at the passing Cardiff to Treherbert service.
“The incident caused damage to the train’s front window, and officers carried out a search of the area but did not identify anyone.”
One passenger on board said: “We didn’t really know what had happened but then we realised that some total idiots had thrown something from the bridge.
“The train company dealt with it very well and disruption was kept to a minimum. Hopefully they will catch who did it.”
'Stay away from the tracks'
British Transport Police added: “We would ask everyone to please stay away from the tracks. By messing around near the tracks, you are putting your own lives in danger as well as the lives of all the staff and passengers travelling on the trains.
“The railway is a dangerous environment and it should never be treated as a playground.
“We encourage anyone with any information to contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016 quoting reference 403 of 01/06/16.”
