Llandudno,North Wales - Rhos on Sea homeless man to be evicted .... from bus shelter

Jonathan Hughes has been sleeping rough in the bus shelter for months, but questions have been raised about what has been done to help him

A homeless man who has been living rough in a bus shelter for two months is to be evicted from his makeshift home.
Jonathan Hughes, 48, has been sleeping in a shelter at Rhos Point, in Rhos-on-Sea , Conwy.
The council has confirmed it has served him with a letter saying it wants to get an eviction notice to force him out.
But his plight has raised questions as to whether or not he should have been offered more help, rather than just move him on to somewhere else.
Rhos Point is in a prominent spot in Rhos-on-Sea, which is busy with tourists, and the shelter is opposite a popular children’s park.
But in the shelter, rubbish has stacked up and is overflowing onto the nearby pavement. There are empty pizza boxes, numerous plastic bottles and containers and a row of empty tea mugs.
Mr Hughes told the Daily Post he has asked the council for bin bags to clear up the rubbish, but none have materialised.
He told the Daily Post: “I’ve been here for two months, I ended up here after being evicted from my flat.
“People have been very kind have given me a pound here and there, and food.
“I rely on donations.

“I have asked for bin bags, but the bin lorries just drive past.”
Diane Slater, who was in the children’s park with her daughter and granddaughter, owns a bed and breakfast in Colwyn Bay, and believes more should be done to help Mr Hughes.
“We came yesterday and you could tell the man was out of it, he just seemed in a daze.
“We had to park right by the shelter, and the smell was terrible, I wouldn’t want my grandchild to go anywhere near it.
“But what I can’t understand is why hasn’t the council helped the gentleman, he obviously needs help.
“It’s sad to see someone living like that.”
A Conwy County Council spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that the County Council has served a letter to the rough sleeper indicating our intention to seek an eviction notice.
