A murder trial was halted at Cardiff Crown Court when the second of two accused admitted killing local mother Nadia Jones during a drugs robbery.
Kial Ahmed, 34, pleaded guilty to murder and Roxanne Deacon, 26, denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter
Kial Ahmed, 35 of Catherine Drive, Tongwynlais had already pleaded guilty to the murderof the mum-of-one, whose body was found in her flat at Meirion Place, Tremorfa on September 11 last year, after initially denying it.
He also admitted robbing Ms Jones of a quantity of class A drugs and of money and had been due to be called as the first witness giving evidence against his co-defendant, Roxanne Deacon, 27, of Thomas Street, Grangetown.
Deacon pleaded guilty to manslaughter
She had pleaded got guilty to both charges and a jury was selected to try her at Cardiff Crown Court earlier this week.
But late Wednesday, following several hours of legal discussions, her barrister Peter Rouch QC asked that the allegations be put to her again.
In the presence of the jurors she pleaded guilty to robbing Ms Jones and to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Michael Mather-Lees QC , for the prosecution, said the manslaughter plea from Deacon was being accepted following discussions with the Crown Prosecution Service and the police.
Judge Neil Bidder QC told the jurors, as they were being discharged: "This was a homicide committed in the course of a robbery of the victim in order to steal drugs and cash from her."
Case was 'not straightforward'
The court heard the three main prosecution witnesses would have been Kian Ahmed, Deacon's mother and a class A drug user.
Mr Mather-Lees said the case was therefore "not straightforward".
"It means this (manslaughter) is not an unrealistic basis which has been put before us in the circumstances," he added.
Judge Bidder adjourned the case for both defendants to be in the dock together and for Ahmed's counsel David Aubrey QC to be present.
'I am thinking of the victim's family'
He told those representing Deacon that he would have to consider "dangerousness" in her case, which could result in her getting a life sentence, an extended term or a fixed period of imprisonment.
There was a request that she be sentenced via a live video link to the Cardiff court because of previous difficulties in getting her brought from a prison in Kent where she had been held on remand awaiting trial.
"We do not ask for pre-sentence reports for her and are content for sentence to take place as soon as possible," Mr Rouch said.
The judge said he would want to pass sentence "sooner rather than later" .
"I am thinking of the victim's family. They expect a resolution," he told the lawyers.
