AN aspiring-barber who launched an unprovoked attack on a butcher in a pub — fracturing his victim's cheek and forcing him to delay his application to join the Navy — has been handed a community order.
Nineteen-year-old Morgan Lloyd Thomas has also been ordered to pay his victim Rhidian Williams £1,200 in compensation for the injuries he inflicted.

Swansea Crown Court heard that Thomas struck him in the face as the pair stood talking outside toilets in the Spread Eagle public house — but that neither party could explain why the attack happened.
Kevin Jones, prosecuting, said the victim of the attack had been for a night out in Carmarthen town centre in September last year, visiting the Queen's pub and then Wetherspoons before going to the Spread Eagle
The barrister said he and Thomas had spent a couple of minutes "simply talking" in the corridor outside the pub's toilets when the defendant suddenly delivered a "forceful blow" to the victim's face — either with a punch or an elbow — knocking him to the floor.
The court heard a number of other people in the pub "walked over" the victim has he lay on the floor.
Eventually the victim — "distressed and with a bleeding nose" — got up and walked outside the pub where he approached a policewoman he knew.
He was subsequently taken to Glangwili Hospital A&E before being taken to see a maxilofacial expert in Morriston Hospital. The court heard the 20-year-old suffered a complex fracture of his right cheek.
Thomas, of Nantycaws, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm when he appeared in the dock for sentencing.
The court heard he has no previous convictions.
In a statement read to the court the victim said the attack had left him concerned about going out, and had knocked his confidence.
He also said the attack had meant he couldn't play football for his local team in Tumble for a four months, and had forced him to delay his application to join the Royal Navy — something that had been an ambition of his for a long time.
David Williams, for Thomas, said his client was "extremely remorseful" for what he had done, adding he had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and "it may be that his level of maturity is less than his chronological age".
The barrister said Thomas had been offered the chance of studying an NVQ in barbering with a job in a Carmarthen salon.
Judge Keith Thomas told Thomas he had launched a "wholly unprovoked" assault on his victim while in drink.
The judge sentenced him to an 18 month community order with a rehabilitation requirement and a thinking skills course, and ordered him to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.
The judge also ordered Thomas to pay his victim £1,200 in compensation
