A MAN in a wheelchair who lashed out at police officers after drinking a bottle of rum — cutting the shin of one of them with the pin used to attach his false leg — has been given a community order.
Swansea Magistrates Court heard that police were called to a property in Clase at 5am following concerns about the behaviour of a "heavily intoxicated" Phillip James Morgan.
When they arrived Morgan would not let them in, attaching the security chain to the door to keep them out.
The court heard there was a "conversation through the door" between the parties but then the officers, concerned about what was happening inside the property, forced entry and found 38-year-old Morgan in his wheelchair in the hallway.
Julie Sullivan, prosecuting, said Morgan began swearing at the officers and becoming aggressive, telling them he was going to "kick their heads in".
He then began lashing out at the officers, catching one of the officers on the shin with the metal pin used to attach his prosthetic leg.
The court heard the officers tried to restrain the man, and during the ensuing tussle Morgan's wheelchair toppled over and he passed out.
Paramedics were called and the defendant was taken to hospital.
