Two men have been jailed after clashing with anti-racism protesters earlier this year.
Richard Williams of Bryngwran and Nathan Waller of Gwalchmai, Anglesey were among six men who were sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court last Thursday for their involvement in violent demonstrations in Kent last January.
Smoke bombs were released and bricks thrown as police tried to control hundreds of far-right demonstrators marching through the Kent town amid clashes with anti-racism demonstrators.
The clash took place on January 30 when rallies were held by the left wing groups Dover Stand Up 2 Racism (DSUR) and the Kent Anti Racism Network (KARN) colliding with separate demonstrations involving The National Front and other right-wing organisations.
Both were sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to violent disorder.
According to Kent Police, Williams had been filmed kicking a man who was already being assaulted by a fellow protester, as well as throwing objects at others. Waller, meanwhile, was also caught on camera assaulting a man with a number of other protestors.
Detective Constable Kirsty Bricknell of Kent Police said: “These six men contributed to some of the most appalling violence I have ever witnessed, causing a great deal of anguish for the people of Dover who were unfortunate enough to have had their town identified as the location for these demonstrations.
“Kent Police has a statutory duty to facilitate peaceful protest but it has become obvious that many of those who attended on the day had no intention of doing anything other than fighting with those who held differing opinions to themselves.
“Their behaviour was unacceptable and I hope these results send a clear message that such criminal actions will not be tolerated in Dover or anywhere else in Kent.’
Both Williams, 31, and Waller, 18, were members of the Infidels of North Wales group, which arranged a demonstration in Llangefni last year in protest against mass immigration, the “Islamification of Britain” and the “hiding of sex offenders and paedophiles in our hostels and villages”.
