The rubbish was dumped on the road between Betws yn Rhos and Glan Conwy
AN APPEAL has been launched after a pile of household rubbish was dumped on a road near Old Colwyn.
Natural Resources Wales (NRW) officers are working with the North Wales Police’s Rural Crime Team to investigate the tipper-load of household waste that was dumped near Llanelian yn Rhos, Old Colwyn.
Among the materials dumped are sofas, a mattress and soiled nappies. Conwy Council is helping to clean up the site.
Matt Roberts, environmental crime team leader for Natural Resources Wales, said: “In Wales, 42,000 tonnes of illegally-dumped waste is reported each year. It costs the taxpayer a lot of money to clean up and spoils the local area for people.
“This incident happened on the road between Betws yn Rhos and Glan Conwy and it’s quite possible that someone has seen this material being loaded, carried, or dumped.
“We’d ask them to get in touch with us as soon as possible by reporting it to our incident hotline on 0800 807060 so we can find out who’s responsible.
“To help tackle illegal dumping of waste we coordinate a partnership initiative called Fly-tipping Action Wales, which gives advice on how to get rid of waste safely, legally and responsibly.”
