Police were called to a house on Pethybridge Road in Ely, Cardiff, on Saturday afternoon

Armed police have been called to a residential street in Cardiff following concerns for a 49-year-old man.

South Wales Police were called at around 3.45pm on Saturday and have sent a police negotiator and armed police to the scene in Ely.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "At around 3.45pm this afternoon police officers were called to an incident at an address in Pethybridge Road in Ely following concerns for a 49-year-old man from Cardiff.

"The incident is currently being contained and a specialist police negotiator has been called in.

"Armed police officers have been deployed as a precaution to ensure the safety of the public and officers."
