A drug supplier in the university city of Bangor had a master’s degree in law and banking, a judge remarked.
“As a graduate, you above all would know how serious is drug dealing in this way,” said Recorder Jeremy Jenkins at Caernarfon crown court.
Nayab Guldawood, 28, of Deiniol Road, Bangor, was given a two-year jail sentence suspended for two years after pleading guilty to being concerned in the supply of ecstasy and cannabis.
He also admitted possessing the drugs, and Elen Owen, prosecuting, said more than £1,100 had been found in a locked suitcase at his home.
It followed his arrest in January when he was drunk and was one of two men in a 4.50am street disturbance in Bangor.
Ms Owen said benefit from his drug activity was calculated at £3,116.
Defence barrister Simon Rogers said he had pleaded guilty and suggested that his offending was at the bottom of his sentencing range.
Recorder Jenkins reminded Guldawood that there had been instances where ingestion of ecstasy led to death.
The judge accepted that he was remorseful and also what was said in a probation report and testimonials.
He believed the defendant had learned “a salutary lesson”.
“The supply of drugs of any category is a very serious matter,” said the judge.
Guldawood must carry out 200 hours of unpaid work, and observe a drug rehabilitation programme for nine months and 10 days of a rehabilitation activity.
In addition, £3,116 is being confiscated as proceeds of crime and £1,200 costs must be paid.
