Rhyl,North Wales - Air Show visitors targeted in car park scam by fraudsters

Denbighshire Council has issued a warning while some reports suggest one of the fraudsters made off with £600 from the scam

Scammers targeted unsuspecting visitors to Rhyl Air Show by charging them to park on FREE council car parks.
According the Love Rhyl tourist website, which is run by Denbighshire County Council , the heartless thieves were asking people to pay to use the town’s Quay Street car park, near Ponty y Ddraig Bridge in the town’s West End.
Security fencing was also removed at the Premier Inn building site on the corner of Water Street and on Crescent Road and people were charged to park there too.
North Wales Police have been informed according to Rhyl’s tourist information centre.
Please be aware rogue traders with hi-vis & signs offering car parking in Premier Inn construction site & old coach park Crescent Rd Rhyl.
The message read: “Unfortunately, some visitors to the Air Show have been scammed by one or two unscrupulous individuals.
“Quay Street Car Park, which is close to Pont y Ddraig Bridge at the West End of the Promenade is a free car park.
“Some customers were charged by persons unknown. Please do not pay if approached by anyone at Quay Street Car Park.
“Security fencing was removed on the Premier Inn building site and former Crescent Road car park site and people were charged to park here.
“Please do not park here. They are building sites and unsafe. The fencing has been replaced.
“North Wales Police are aware of these people.

“There is only one car park where an individual would be taking money rather than there being a pay and display machine, and this is at the Pavilion Theatre.”
One unconfirmed report says the fraudsters made away with at least £600 from their scam.
This is the second time in a matter of weeks that advertising signs at the Premier Inn site have been interfered with.
Less than three weeks ago vandals slashed the signs shortly after they had been put up.

Planning consent was granted in May for a 70-bedroom hotel, Brewers Fayre restaurant and 71 parking spaces at the Honey Club site.
