A motorist said to have taken drink and cocaine hurtled the wrong way down a dual carriageway at 70mph.
Jamie Jones, 28, led police on a 16-mile pursuit at 2.30am on July 30, Mold Crown Court heard.
He drove on country roads, twice evaded a police stinger device and twice went around a roundabout the wrong way.
The chase only came to an ended when the car stopped with smoke pouring from the engine compartment.
Part of the pursuit was captured on film from a police helicopter above and the footage was played in court.
Jones, of Pleasant View in Froncysyllte , admitted dangerous driving in a silver VW Polo, failing to provide a breath specimen, failing to stop, no driving licence and no insurance.
Judge Niclas Parry adjourned the case was sentence.
Prosecutor David Mainstone said a taxi driver travelling on the A525 between Rhuddlanand St Asaph saw the Polo in the opposite carriageway travelling in the same direction as him – on the wrong side of the road.
The witness tried to warn Jones of the danger but he continued on the wrong carriageway at about 70mph.
Mr Mainstone said the taxi driver went around the Talardy roundabout at St Asaph but initially lost sight of Jones.
He was then seen turning in Roe Park and the taxi driver tried to grab his ignition keys.
Jones seemed oblivious to his presence and suddenly pulled away, knocking him to the ground.
Jones drove along the A55 to Bodelwyddan but then returned along the A55, took the St Asaph slip road but then drove back on the dual-carriageway and accelerated towards Rhuallt Hill.
He drove to the Caerwys turn-off where police put out a stinger in an attempt to and drove towards Lloc and Trelogan, left towards Axton and back towards the A5151 where he again avoided a stinger.
Jones went around two roundabouts the wrong way and at one stage police believed he was about to go down a slip road to the A55 the wrong way but a lorry was coming up and blocked his way.
He reached speeds of 90mph at one stage on the A55, slowed down to 70mph at Rhuallt Hill and then increased to 85 mph, changing lanes as he went.
Mr Mainstone told the court that the car left the A55 at the St Asaph Business park slip road with smoke billowing from the engine compartment.
The driver turned right and right again and headed back to the A55 but stopped when the engine cut out.
He pulled over and was arrested. He refused to provide a breath test and gave a no comment interview.
Mark Connor, defending, said his client conceded that he had taken alcohol and cocaine while out with friends, there had been an argument and he had foolishly decided to drive home.
His client had only been released from custody last month and had been recalled to prison after his arrest.
Jones was remanded in custody for a pre-sentence report.
