A man has been arrested after a police negotiator and armed officers were called to a residential street in Cardiff.
South Wales Police sent armed police to an incident on Pethybridge Road in Ely at around 3.45pm “following concerns” for a 49-year-old man from Cardiff.
Police said a specialist police negotiator was called in and that armed police officers were sent to the scene as a precaution to ensure the safety of the public and officers.
A police spokesman later confirmed that a 49-year-old man had been arrested and was in custody. He said nobody had been injured in the incident.
Some neighbours said they had been told to leave their homes while others making their way back to the area said they weren’t allowed back in their houses while police dealt with the incident.
Skye Williams, who has lived in the street for nearly a year, said: "Police wouldn't let me in.
"There was at least two riot vans, one 4x4, there was the dog handler and then loads of other police officers.
"There were loads of them and they had guns."
Another neighbour said children were standing outside in their dressing gowns during the incident.
Shelby Wilson, 23, said the road was blocked off at both ends for around three and a half hours.
She said: "The people who live really close, they kicked out. They wouldn't let residents in. It was hectic."
Vivienne Hawkey, 58, said she was told to step away from her front gate when police arrived.
She said: “Guns were ready and they said step back from the gate.
"I knew there’d been some sort of drama going on.
"It’s a good community.
"I heard about 2.30pm shouting through the window.
"It was chaotic as there was armed police. They were stood with their with guns and everything."

Lou Holmes said she was asked to leave her home and said other neighbours were told to leave their properties for their safety.
She said: "All of a sudden I got asked to leave my house.
"We were down there (at the end of the street) for three hours. It was blocked both ends."
