Thieves stole a collection box from a medieval church after breaking one of its Grade I listed windows to get in.
The break-in took place at St Cybi’s Church in Holyhead, which was described as the “heart of the town” by Rev Kevin Ellis.
“This is a very sad occurrence, and it makes me sad that anyone would want to break into a church ,” he said.
“The lead window will cost a lot to fix and was probably more than 100 years old.
“The church is a gem. The only positive thing to come out of this situation is that everybody has rallied around to help.
“One of the councillors has even offered to give some of his allowance, which is very kind, and the funeral director helped make the windows safe.”

Holyhead county councillor Trefor Lloyd Hughes said Thursday’s break-in was “very upsetting”.
“It’s such a special and historic place,” he said.
“It really is the heart of the town, as people get married there and have funerals there, and so it deserves our support.
“I give some of my council allowance nearly every month to local causes, and I will be doing so to St Cybi.”
The original church was built at Holyhead around 540 AD by St Cybi, a cousin of St David. It was sacked by Viking invaders in the 10th century.
The present church was built in the 13th century, and was damaged in 1405 by Henry IV’s invading force.
St Cybi’s was Grade I listed in January 1968.
North Wales Police said enquiries are ongoing and asked anyone with information to call 101 and quote crime reference number U128732
