A 22-year-old man lost his temper and bit a policeman's knuckle after being arrested in front of his girlfriend in Rhyl town centre for alleged sexual assault – officers having got the wrong man, a court heard.
Defence solicitor Craig Hutchinson told Llandudno Magistrates that a police officer wasn’t very discreet when announcing the reason for the arrest in public that night and it had caused Liam Mason “immense problems” with comments and threats made to him.
Mr Hutchinson said Mason, of South Avenue, Rhyl, who’d overheard a man telling an officer “that’s him,” had been shocked and told police they were wrong to arrest him. He then resisted them and the bite occurred, causing a scratch.
The lawyer said the defendant was sorry.
At the police station Mason had been “de-arrested” for sexual assault and officers accepted they had the wrong man.
However, Mason admitted assaulting an officer and resisting police on August 7.
He was fined £300 and must pay £50 compensation and £115 costs.
“This type of behaviour is wholly out of character,” Mr Hutchinson added.
Prosecutor James Neary said Mason told police he felt they were “heavy-handed” with him.
