Man in his late 20s had been stabbed'

We’ve just had this confirmed from the Welsh Ambulance Service.

Mill Place in Ely is cordoned off by officers from South Wales Police

A spokesman said: “We received a call at 13.44pm and attended the scene where it was reported a male in his late 20s had been stabbed and was on the floor.
“We conveyed him to UHW A&E where his condition was serious.
“The ambulance pre-alerted the hospital but we have no other information to add at this time.”
South Wales Police are at the scene of an ongoing incident in Ely.
Wales Online readers say that Mill Place in Ely is blocked by police vans and other police vehicles.
A police helicopter has also been seen in the area.

Armed police seen

A man, who did not wish to be named, said he saw a man lying in a pool of blood by Mill Place but was taken to hospital.
He said: “Stuff like this seems to happening every other day.”
He also said armed police had been seen in the area.

Police statement

A statement has been released by South Wales Police.
At 1.40pm on Sunday, August 28, South Wales Police received a number of reports of a disturbance at Mill Place, Ely, Cardiff. During the incident a 28 year old man received injuries to his abdomen which are believed to have been caused with a knife. The man has been conveyed to hospital with non life-threatening injuries and is speaking with police.
Armed officers were deployed as a precaution to protect the public and police and enquiries are ongoing to arrest the suspect.
There is no indication that there is any threat to the general public and additional patrols have been put in place to reassure local residents.

There was a separate incident involving police yesterday, also in Ely where a police negotiator was called.
