A man wearing a balaclava demanded money from two shops in Swansea on Sunday morning while brandishing a kitchen knife.
Police have confirmed they are investigating two robberies and believe the same man is responsible.
The first happened at the Premier Store on Caepistyll Street at 8.10am and the second at the Spar shop on Carmarthen Road just after 8.30am.
'Brandishing a kitchen knife'
A force spokesman said: “On both occasions, he demanded money from the till while brandishing a kitchen knife and wearing a balaclava.”
Nothing was stolen from the first shop, where he was challenged by the shopkeeper. Cash and some tobacco were stolen from the Spar.
Police confirmed no one was injured in the incidents.
Detective Inspector Phil Sparrow said: “Crime scene investigators have attended to forensically examine the shops.
'Increased police presence'
“There will be an increased police presence in the area today.”
He added: “Extensive enquiries are continuing to identify the man responsible.
“We would also be grateful to hear from any members of the community who have information which may help.”
The suspect is described as being of chunky build, with an Irish or Liverpudlian accent.
He was wearing a light-coloured hooded top, dark trousers and was carrying a black bag at the time of the incident.
